Ride Information

The Spotted Horse Gravel Ultra is a race over 200+ miles of central western Iowa gravel roads. October is a beautiful time to ride gravel in Iowa. Planning the route for this event has been a joy and an adventure. I have wandered as far west as Monteith, and within shouting distance of Missouri. The course will not be finalized until next year, but it will be 200 and 150 miles of the best big hills, small towns, old barns, rickety bridges, and B roads that I can find. Lots more information to come soon regarding the venue, registration, checkpoints, lodging, etc.

Spotted Horse Gravel Ultra is a self-supported adventure, and no crews are allowed on the course. There will be opportunities to resupply at convenience stores, and the distance between them will be posted at a later date before the course is finalized.

Expect it to be very hilly, with many turns and few flat and straight sections. There will be dirt B-roads, rickety bridges, and probably some hike-a-bike sections. Parts of the course will be remote, with limited cell service. Other areas will be residential farmland, but all should be low-traffic, scenic Iowa roads.

GPX files will be posted here one to two weeks before the event date.

The Spotted Horse Gravel Ultra is a self-supported, ultracycling event on gravel and dirt roads of Iowa.

Outside support is not allowed during the race.
