Medicine Hat Gran Fondo
The Medicine Hat Granfondo is your chance to get ready for the Granfondo season in a personal battle against distance and, ultimately, the clock in the picturesque Cypress Hills. There are three distances: the Cortofondo (60 km), Mediofondo (100 km), or Granfondo (163 km). The Granfondo takes you on a gruelling journey with an elevation gain greater than 1100m, rivaling those that take place in the Alberta Rockies.
A 60km ride through picturesque prairie views with more than 400m of total elevation gain. The majority of elevation gain is in the first half of the course. The turn around, including a fully stocked Aid Station is positioned at the Little Plume Church. This aid station features a stunning view of the surrounding area. From here it is all downhill to the finish.
The Mediofondo course replicates the first and last 30km of the Cortofondo Course to the Little Plume Church. Once past the Little Plume Church, the ride continues through rolling prairies, to the base of the Cypress Hills. At this point there will be another fully stocked aid station for the weary rider. From here, the rider will retrace their steps back towards the Little Plume Church and onto the finish. The Mediofondo Course provides in excess of 700m of total elevation gain and a total distance of 100km.
Gran Fondo Course
The Gran-Daddy of the inaugural Medicine Hat Practica di Gran Fondo takes you on a grueling 146km journey with an elevation gain greater than 1100m, rivaling those that take place in the Alberta Rockies. This course mirrors the Mediofondo for the first 50km before skirting the base of the Cypress Hills before finally reaching the turn around. After the turn, riders will retrace the previous route, but just when they are headed for the finish, you will take another turn and head back out, up into the hills on the Black & White Trail. One final aid station awaits the rider here, at the 133km distance, before the final turn around to return you to the start.
