Ride Information
The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is a non profit cycling event with 3 distances: Piccolo 58 km, Medio 102 km, and Gran 152 km. Cyclists will enjoy the majestic Rocky Mountain scenery and friendly small town hospitality. Included in all routes is the Northstar Rails to Trails, a 26 km non motorized paved cycling path.
Many cyclists use Gran Fondo's to challenge themselves to ride a long distance with fellow cyclists. The routes are well sign-posted and marshaled and riders are provided with nutritional aid stations, mechanical and medical support.
Some participants ride the event like a race, while others simply ride for a personal challenge and the camaraderie with friends and family.
The Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club purpose is to serve as an opportunity for cyclists to participate in a world class Fondo, bring tourists to our region, and raise funds for local charitable endeavours. The Cranbrook - Kimberley Northstar Rails to Trails Society is a recipient of a portion of the event proceeds. Other funds raised through the event will be used to support community projects in our area. We are committed to using local suppliers and businesses to benefit our community.
Prevent Injury & Ride Your Best
One of the biggest training mistakes cyclists make is leaving recovery to chance.
Cycling demands a lot from our bodies, if we’re not keeping up with maintenance, then it will eventually break down.

The best way to prevent injury while riding is with targeted mobility and strength work.
Our friends at Dynamic Cyclist have created easy to follow routines, 15 - 20 minutes in length, that will keep you riding pain free all season long.
